10 custom maps you should have on your server

10. bg_pirate_boats3


Coming in at a respectable 10th place is this chaotic map, which demonstrates why vehicles and Half Life 2 don't mix.  No objectives, just jump on a boat, try to control it, fall off then repeat.  Even so this map can provide a whole lot of fun.

9. bg_Castle_X


There are one or two versions of this, but I believe this one to be the best.  Two small castles in a walled arena.  I wasn't at Fort McIntosh but I imagine this recreates it pretty well.  Overall a fun little map.

8. mp_pacificbrawl


Two ships side by side is pretty much all this is and all this needs to be.  A novelty map but enjoyable nonetheless.  As an added bonus you can walk up the ropes to the crows nest.

7. bg1_battlefield_v2


The first serious map in the countdown.  A remake of the old BG1 map.  There is another remake around, but this one sticks closer to the original and has better lighting.  A very good map to scrim on, a real shame it's never played anymore.

6. bg_smummer_assault_b1


Two serious maps in a row?  Yes indeed.  Released by Sol in early 2009 this glistening masterpiece was soon forgotten by the end of the year.  Some people might think it is a bit large for a 5v5 skirmish, but size wasn't the issue.  The high amount of players needed to cap flags made it non-viable for league play.

5. bg_disco


Tired of killing Redcoats?  Why not dance all your troubles away at the 22nd disco.  Complete with bar, VIP area and unisex toilets bg_disco is Battle Grounds' premier night venue.  Not recommended for epileptics.

4. bg1_snowlake_v4


Another BG1 remake on the list.  Smaller than its stock BG2 descendant and without the Hill to loop around it invites more close quartered combat.  Was always a classic in BG1 and remains so in BG2.

2. bg_horseshoe_bgl


Probably the hardest map to full cap on ever played in a BG2 league.  Maybe that's why it stands out from all the other open skirmish maps.

1. sq2


If you weren't expecting this then you shouldn't be playing BG2.  The standard map for 1v1's and melee training.  Smaller and better looking than the preceding sq1.

We're back! We thought tiedup's interview was enough lecture for a few weeks, so the entire redaction has been on holiday in Libya.  Let's start off with some good news: we have in fact managed to produce an oracle for BGU matches between the top 3 clans. Your predictions will never be wrong again! Unfortunately, one of bg's oldest clans, TEHO, had to leave the league as they are in need of more players. The latest drama involves 42Cdo and 28th: these clans do not seem to like eachother at all, and their respective clanleaders have had some heated discussions. {3°RGF} Custom Skins

Using our superior investigative powers The Observer has uncovered some pretty neat looking player skins made by the French clan {3°RGF} (3°Régiment de Grenadiers Français).   As you may have guessed by the clan name they are based on French uniforms of the Napoleonic period. As you can see they have some pretty nice stuff here.  It's a shame is they haven't released these to the community as I'm sure there are a few Napoleonic Wars enthusiasts around.

The Linebattle Championship is approaching and BG2 Development

At the Observer we have received an update on the progress of the LBC .  The site is near completion and the organisers are looking to sign up clans to participate so rules can be discussed.  So if you're in a linebattle clan tell your leader, or if you are a leader sign up here . Also in the Observer's hiatus development on BG2 seems to have increased in pace.  Screenshots of two new maps, bg_trenton and bg_township , have been posted to moddb .  Of course as some may know, bg_township isn't exactly a new map as it had featured in previous releases of BG2 years ago. There has also been a lot of discussion on the future of BG2 on the forums.  Don't panic, we're not talking about whether there is a future, but where the mod will be going in the future.  This was all sparked of by a new user reviving this two month old thread .
