BG2: The Legendary European Clans
A lot of clans have come and gone since the release of The Battle Grounds 2 in september 2005. Our redaction has chosen 3 linebattle and 3 skirmish teams that have left a lasting impression and should not be forgotten: this is your chance to brush up on your BG2 history!
Note: This list is not a ranking. The clans are more or less in chronological order.
1) The Royal Recruits, [TRR]: This clan goes back to Bg1 - they are the godfathers of linebattling. Being the first to hold public linebattles with a set of understandable rules and developing the basic commanding techniques, this clan has really laid the foundation of the linebattling we know today. But it doesn't stop there: their mappers have made a large number of very well-known and popular linebattle maps such as trr_towton and trr_strangeways. Their member Grantelbart even joined the Bg2 developers. On top of all the linebattling they also participated in several skirmish leagues - and were not bad at it either!
2) 51st Regiment of Foot, |51st|: The 51st was probably the largest clan ever in Bg2, having over 200 members in their golden days, and being practically undefeated in linebattles. TRR may have developed the linebattling gameplay, but 51st has perfected it. They have taught the people how to linebattle. For several months they held public linebattles almost every day with a full server. The 51st have also produced the map lb_meadows, which is becoming increasingly popular these days. This clan has inspired many other players to found their own clans, for example the 22nd and the 15th(=MN=). Even today their successors the 83rd and the 29th are seen as the best linebattle clans.
3) 22nd Regiment of Foot, {22nd}: Founded by ex-51st members, this clan rapidly grew into a successful linebattle and skirmish clan. What distinguished this clan from the others were their mappers: designing funny, enjoyable maps, having a new map almost every week! As a result they take places 5, 6, 7 and 10 in our previous article "10 Custom maps you should have on your server". Playing on their server was never boring, the admins were fair and the members were friendly. One of their mappers is now a developer for the mod World War 1: Source.

Legendary skirmish clans:
1) Grapes of Wrath, [ G.o.W ]: Grapes of Wrath was an old Bg1 clan, a bunch of experienced players with an amazing record of Bg1 matches: 122 wins and 49 losses (That's over 3 years of activity!). Moving to Bg2's Battlegrounds League in 2008, they won almost every match in the first few months, beating not only LG|, but also Be Blue ! and La Familia.
2) La.Familia, La.Familia ': Quite possibly the best skirmish clan ever on Bg2, with an astonishing Win Percentage of 88.889%, they blew everyone away! Not only do they have the most wins of all Bg2 clans, 48, but they also have the longest Title reign, being the Title Holder for 28 consecutive weeks (second place goes to the American clan [MP] with only 10 weeks). La.Familia holds the biggest stock value of all Bg2 clans in BGL history, with a stock value of 454. Their biggest rival has always been Be Blue !.
3) Blue Brigade, Be Blue !: These oldskool Bg1 veterans hold the 2nd biggest stock value with 290 points. When fighting against La.Familia the outcome of the matches would never be sure, winning some matches but losing others. One final match between the two rivals was fought on the 25th of April 2010, which Be Blue ! won, after that La.Familia quit Bg2. Be Blue is also the only team to ever beat the - then - upcoming clan |Alpina|.
